I did a double-take on this #2 at Comet when I saw that the tasting notes were watermelon, limeaid, and earl grey, since those sound like natural process notes, but this was labeled washed. I was surprised, but happy to try a unique washed coffee.
I was happy that it actually tasted like the advertised notes. In fact, it tasted floral and gentle, but not overly watery, with great flavor. I would like to call it fruity, since that is a descriptor I use for coffee a lot, but it was probably florality that I was tasting. Earl grey tastes floral, and lime and watermelon are both rather "aromatic" flavors. That resulted in this coffee tasting floral. Unfortunately, coffee is usually just labeled "floral" and the uninitiated coffee drinker is supposed to imagine they are in a garden or something.
I also appreciated that Comet did not rip me off for this coffee. I think I paid less than $5 for this, and certainly less than the drip coffee I got at Metric the other day.
I drank this coffee really fast once it cooled down, and I thought it was fantastic. I would have ordered it even if it were a natural process. The fact that it was washed may have helped it be clean, bright, and engaging.
